<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-c60FkkcNMz9jrHnPjkh7TW5Tu1Pt1coNri1IdNVmGJRdZgS5T-50VPRbWoos5VrPfd7sg5wnISTxPDsEsy4e02QEQMvjNrBRDzn8HO0n6TvFIL6PM2bTg6Js5ovfCAny3qd5o8xbu8nK/s1600/beatrixpotter-miceatwork-threading+the+needle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-c60FkkcNMz9jrHnPjkh7TW5Tu1Pt1coNri1IdNVmGJRdZgS5T-50VPRbWoos5VrPfd7sg5wnISTxPDsEsy4e02QEQMvjNrBRDzn8HO0n6TvFIL6PM2bTg6Js5ovfCAny3qd5o8xbu8nK/s1600/beatrixpotter-miceatwork-threading+the+needle.jpg" height="320" width="268" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As soon as I saw the inspiration picture for this month, I knew I wanted to use thread in my earrings. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnA-TNxvfifisqiUthwGeK0-CZttknszsS88zGmhemN2g0WtGMYCPvrg_O24gm2HsV3wwBMh9Kgt01nBTWyHqCksaSi19T1rdbqoLR882k2RxqBEgP38ADsjxxFpkpdYm-8Il8gCqJ9hQ8/s1600/allearsmarchsketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnA-TNxvfifisqiUthwGeK0-CZttknszsS88zGmhemN2g0WtGMYCPvrg_O24gm2HsV3wwBMh9Kgt01nBTWyHqCksaSi19T1rdbqoLR882k2RxqBEgP38ADsjxxFpkpdYm-8Il8gCqJ9hQ8/s1600/allearsmarchsketch.jpg" height="279" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My two ideas were making tassels or wrapping thread around hoops. Both ideas centered around the rectangular, pressed glass flower beads I got <a href="http://maybejustperhaps.blogspot.com/2014/03/bead-table-wednesday.html">last week</a>. Since I'd never made any, I thought I would try tassels. I still want to try the others with hoops but need to get more of the flower beads or find some similar shaped ones in my bead <strike>hoard</strike> stash. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhga8pbfkG4bTXxrp8ngWAwIgBAgglwd2K_fgfzN9-vrCmospqTHO-1AttPJ5qHCjqJCsQNaXl9xbLIZzCVFmqKLWRN7I770rkgaqrXKUsMWVDyLJfiTX1QcxDSpM0jOCqlfhX7WfBu3Etj/s1600/allearsmarch2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhga8pbfkG4bTXxrp8ngWAwIgBAgglwd2K_fgfzN9-vrCmospqTHO-1AttPJ5qHCjqJCsQNaXl9xbLIZzCVFmqKLWRN7I770rkgaqrXKUsMWVDyLJfiTX1QcxDSpM0jOCqlfhX7WfBu3Etj/s1600/allearsmarch2.jpg" height="320" width="232" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's what I ended up with after I added the beads to the tassels. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFT0LWNOZjwYbCxtDHQGJttrOOg-MJznooh6xLarBgxWHMZ3ccoJjy3hfrE4qeKeKOdraF2ZxDQRhZlANRcZU3GFV8GqLDwt2qkrFDbm13EDWnA0QjVtE2ESqDVQl8zomXrI8qZjZ1SZGa/s1600/allearsmarchflowers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFT0LWNOZjwYbCxtDHQGJttrOOg-MJznooh6xLarBgxWHMZ3ccoJjy3hfrE4qeKeKOdraF2ZxDQRhZlANRcZU3GFV8GqLDwt2qkrFDbm13EDWnA0QjVtE2ESqDVQl8zomXrI8qZjZ1SZGa/s1600/allearsmarchflowers.jpg" height="291" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The beads represent the embroidered flowers in the inspiration picture...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and the thread colors of the tassels draw from the embroidery. I really like how they swing and I'll definitely make more in some different colors. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My bead table has some polymer clay blobs I'm trying to match to the <a href="http://artbeadscene.blogspot.com/2014/03/march-monthly-challenge-color-palette.html">March color palette</a> at Art Bead Scene. Their colors are a little more correct in person but the three greens aren't right yet. My idea is to make round beads in each of these colors and surround them with blue beads...like the different colored birds on the blue bird feeder. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For my pair of earrings, I was inspired by the colors from the dragonflies in the challenge picture. Reclaiming used jewelry is my favorite way to get supplies so Sarah's blog hop sounded like a great challenge. Although I already have lots of stuff in my stash purchased for about $1, any reason to hunt for unique supplies is relevant to my interests. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last weekend, my friend and I went to a few shops and booths during a neighborhood festival. She notice some bags of costume jewelry for $2 each and asked if they were something I could use.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I almost said no because I don't normally use vintage plastic beads. However, after a closer look, I snagged one of the bags with interesting patterned beads and closure bars.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I took apart the pink necklace to get to the knot patterned ones (not in this picture because I suck at remembering to take in progress pictures). </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first two patterned beads went into a pair of earrings with more pink beads from this necklace and cream colored ruffle beads from another necklace. My original idea was to use the knotted beads with reclaimed marbled glass beads but my muse wanted to use the gray with the more fuchsia colored pink. I reused bead caps from the necklace and both pairs of earrings use this <a href="http://www.how-to-make-jewelry.com/knotted-wire-headpin.html">headpin tutorial </a>that I have <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/2603712255238952/">pinned</a> on my jewelry board. However, my favorite pair use pink swirly beads and bead caps from the challenge necklace with blue-green reclaimed metal. All three pairs still need earring wires as I don't have any in a tone that will mix with aged copper.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The blue semi-triangles above started as a metal seashell like this purple one. These seashells came on from the same thrifted necklace as the chain I sent in Linda's <a href="http://musthavesjewelry.blogspot.com/2012/07/bead-soup-party-reveal.html">soup mix</a>. At $7, it was a splurge for me, but I couldn't pass it up as a reason to finally buy some tin snips for re-purposing metal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another pair of earrings still in progress use more of the blue seashell. The gold beads came from the pink challenge necklace. I love the way the gold paint has worn on these beads. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Some other earrings in progress include a teardrop hoop of seed beads and reclaimed gear spacers from the necklace with cream colored ruffle beads (another awesome $1 deal my friend found). Another pair uses two more knot patterned beads from the challenge necklace with tin bits from a bead exchange (I think its an Arizona tea can). The pink and robin's egg blue went nicely together. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These clip-on earrings were $1 each. Both pairs will get post backs. </div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Finally, I got punched pennies. I may have to buy some enamel powder to try on them because how cool would that be?! It was an awesome two days and I got more supplies to reclaim which I will share pictures of later. Bonus, on top of all the jewelry to reconstruct, my friend found my new favorite shirt for just $1. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Nerd P.S. - tl;dr - Take friends thrifting with you who know your skills at re-purposing because they will see things you didn't know you could use. And also find your new favorite shirt.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My partner for the 6th Bead Soup Blog Party was Linda of Must-Haves Jewelry. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The <a href="http://musthavesjewelry.blogspot.com/2012/07/bead-soup-party-reveal.html#comment-form">pieces</a> she created from my bead soup ingredients are amazing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicrIToSEi2No_u0XsaYusc5821Gjhev4NvPRmtAOlrDegJw4-b5LExDSpjKCMWECDv81GavdjYH8_MEwU1lKMWpxHMnEBBUNCgsSkUDmUxEa2HQifwb-E9ipsJEw8Dp6sZWmZeL319DBmM/s1600/beadsoup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicrIToSEi2No_u0XsaYusc5821Gjhev4NvPRmtAOlrDegJw4-b5LExDSpjKCMWECDv81GavdjYH8_MEwU1lKMWpxHMnEBBUNCgsSkUDmUxEa2HQifwb-E9ipsJEw8Dp6sZWmZeL319DBmM/s320/beadsoup.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the soup she sent me.
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxjVG_6k2haW_eR2YRSDWAd18rTwKsYopMM54gjdex2ZyZnFXFn6yEPNsyYk3byfchbkTXU1QitC30OzxWM0PUE96bLtBvzyjJ0e-rer804DanNknvPhPua-0ZbdJ6zwOUpvf-k9RX7VC_/s1600/blossomnecklace3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxjVG_6k2haW_eR2YRSDWAd18rTwKsYopMM54gjdex2ZyZnFXFn6yEPNsyYk3byfchbkTXU1QitC30OzxWM0PUE96bLtBvzyjJ0e-rer804DanNknvPhPua-0ZbdJ6zwOUpvf-k9RX7VC_/s320/blossomnecklace3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used the special closure and blue rounds Linda sent with </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
reclaimed wood, rose quartz and green stone <span style="background-color: white;">beads.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha2oKnF47UtzoK_lu6ETiWCstpjNmByC44fDwT-bSfmRw8wMLHT3jeVTAPVuAf6I6L4KTWo4CUCuOrhyphenhyphen31VsIhe20FDITJLyEk0IobVSwQnTugc2v7jB0cZYctydzniZDXPolGpzfvYOQy/s1600/birdnecklace2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha2oKnF47UtzoK_lu6ETiWCstpjNmByC44fDwT-bSfmRw8wMLHT3jeVTAPVuAf6I6L4KTWo4CUCuOrhyphenhyphen31VsIhe20FDITJLyEk0IobVSwQnTugc2v7jB0cZYctydzniZDXPolGpzfvYOQy/s320/birdnecklace2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used the blue coral beads with a wooden bird pendant,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
its matching beads, and a clay leaf .</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrs_WjGxAArx34vkiT4Id61d4haavILF95mL5-B7PMB-McU7F9gFnfqiumOlJketgm0E-Iydm3MrDb9PeCfpnPxLBUJ0pqQnCqLLRgD05vAx6JcCXvAcFwPXwgMPTQe0kM4VmhJqXJueBU/s1600/coilbracelet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrs_WjGxAArx34vkiT4Id61d4haavILF95mL5-B7PMB-McU7F9gFnfqiumOlJketgm0E-Iydm3MrDb9PeCfpnPxLBUJ0pqQnCqLLRgD05vAx6JcCXvAcFwPXwgMPTQe0kM4VmhJqXJueBU/s320/coilbracelet.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The blue pearls Linda sent looked great with these yellow beads </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had just picked up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEt6_RwTvqpuKDbhsoZyEDXkZsT1zu0MzuDSwIQ_tDmyulzIPprV_p9VoTaf3oHyBGlDM-BjU-HVd1b1GGY7YtknIAvQzI_avFhJFPLUAzD1uQFmMVrrpFHar35S1a7Eq4Z7Tjn8BA-Hll/s1600/earrings1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEt6_RwTvqpuKDbhsoZyEDXkZsT1zu0MzuDSwIQ_tDmyulzIPprV_p9VoTaf3oHyBGlDM-BjU-HVd1b1GGY7YtknIAvQzI_avFhJFPLUAzD1uQFmMVrrpFHar35S1a7Eq4Z7Tjn8BA-Hll/s320/earrings1.jpg" width="278" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally, I used two of the lampwork beads with reclaimed metal tags.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I kept the earrings pretty simple to accentuate the beads themselves. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the other participants for the first reveal. </div>

The ten cups I finished turned into eleven necklaces. My favorites ended up being the two necklaces with different shaped Amazonite and fossil coin beads. While looking for a closure, I found a necklace of metal connectors that looked just like waves and had to use them with the sea foam blues of the Amazonite. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Taking pictures is so hard without sunlight. Better pictures and all eleven necklaces tomorrow.</div></div>Kalahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03485148367955759354noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4406117240814490956.post-66806027628779325842011-02-18T21:02:00.000-06:002011-02-18T21:33:24.243-06:00Finally Friday<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS-SF5EF6zDTQxkzIzlxJflAhDH8SSgJ1JnJmBRsC9nCk0V-3zmAFOtIunVBA0mxq6kYWw1OIRob101ydo5QmvneRi-1SsATRPEH69k_8561vNN38p03RxbVadiq_9O-W_JOq7rMjLBCMW/s1600/necklaces+2.jpg"></a>I've had a busy week with three tests and a paper due for my classes. This caused a lack of the daily posting that I had hoped for when I started. <div><br /></div><div>After my last class today, I took some pictures of what I've been making in my free time this week. My camera's batteries ran out while I was trying to photograph more necklaces and after a long week I decided new batteries can wait until tomorrow. The main reason behind starting is I've decided my word of the year for 2011 will be Create. The plan is to make something everyday. It will be mostly crafting and jewelry making but some times cooking or decorating. I've been using a journal to keep track of what I make but thought a blog would be more fun. <div><br /></div><div>I bought a booth at a local craft fair which will take place on March 5. My creating for February has been dedicated to getting enough inventory ready. I plan to sell necklaces, bracelets, and earrings as well as watercolor paintings, notecard sets, and some of my other favorite crafts. </div><div><br /></div><div>A little about me...</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm a 22 year old college student studying History/Art History. I would like to teach one or the other. I live with my fiance, our two Great Pyrenees, and one kitten in our first house. We are in love with making it our own cozy corner of the world. </div><div><br /></div><div>Some of my hobbies are jewelry making, watercolor painting, photography, collaging, and making ATCs. I've been making jewelry since high school. I'm not an expert and, as a college student, I can't buy precious stones. I mostly use glass beads. I've always loved the look of watercolors. I took a class two years ago and recently started painting again. Collaging and making ATCs is also something I enjoy a lot. I like the challenge of the small canvas. As part of my year of daily creating, I'd like to improve my photography skills. Forgive me if my photos start out poorly. </div><div><br /></div><div>I love watching my favorite TV shows. Supernatural and Doctor Who are tied for first. Others I like are The Big Bang Theory, Being Human, Firefly, Fringe, Pushing Daisies, How I Met Your Mother, The IT Crowd, Stargate SG-1, and Avatar: the Last Airbender. </div><div><br /></div><div>I love reading. When I'm not reading textbooks, I like novels by Neil Gaiman, the Harry Potter series, the Lord of the Rings. I'll read pretty much anything interesting though...be it fantasy, biography, historical, etc. </div><div><br /></div><div>I've recently joined Swap-Bot (username maybejustperhaps) and really enjoy getting things in the mail besides bills. </div><div><br /></div><div>I'm working on a Geography class semester project and am collecting currency from as many different countries as possible. If you'd like to trade, send me an email or PM on Swap-Bot. </div><div><br /></div><div>Besides posting about my daily creations, I'm still coming up with ideas for blog posts. I'd love to join some link parties or day of the week posts...things like Music Monday or Bead Table Tuesday. What kinds of posts are your favorites for blogging community building?</div>Kalahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03485148367955759354noreply@blogger.com19
